I have always dreamed about the Pyramids in Egypt. I was fortunate enough to visit them recently. One of our Virtuoso tour operators hosted a small goup and we spent 8 days and visited Cairo, Giza and took a cruise on the Nile with stops to see many ancient temples. Many people have asked me if it is safe to travel to the Middle East. YES! I was able to walk alone with my 23 year old daughter in Cairo at 10:30 in the evening. No Worries! There is very little crime there, as the punishment for crimes is quite severe, and the Egyptians are very religious and moral people. I wouldn't walk alone at night in the U.S.!
We had a wonderful Egyptologist who explained the significance of all the ancient writings and he was able to read and interpret the hireroglyphics written at all the ancient temples. We even saw King Tut's tomb with all the jewels and learned the significance of the artifacts found in his tomb. Abu Simbel, the temple of Edfu and the Market in Cairo were highlights of our trip.

In September I spent an amazing 2 weeks in China. The newest destination … a shoppers’ paradise and a history buff’s picture book. The people were wonderful and enjoyed sharing information about their country (as much as they were permitted to share!) We enjoyed Hong Kong, Beijing, Xian, Guilin and Shanghai as well as a beautiful cruise down the Yangtzee River. The 3 Gorges Dam project is an engineering wonder.
